A Guide to Southern Utah’s Secrets
September 29, 2017 Cedar City, Utah

Not everyone knows the best places to go when they want to enjoy the outdoors. Joshua Barton did this for several people during his summer this year. He led and guided multiple groups of people to many fascinating areas in southern Utah. He guided hikes to sites of beautiful rock formations, petroglyph and pictograph panels, dinosaur tracks, and much more. Josh spent his summer doing this because of his love for the outdoors.

Joshua Barton was born and raised in Kanab, Utah. He grew up exploring and growing to love the wonderful outdoors southern Utah had to offer him. Because of this growing love, Josh spent his past summer guiding others on hikes throughout southern Utah. All the hikes he led were less than a day long. Some were even as brief as an hour or two. Other’s lasted a greater portion of the day.

Josh led many people to incredible pictographs and petroglyphs, awesome dinosaur tracks, wonderful rock features, and other unique sites of historical, geological, paleontological, and archaeological importance. Some specific places that may be known to some are The Wave, South Fork Indian Pictographs, Moccasin Mountain Dinosaur Track site, Buckskin Gulch, and more. Josh led groups as large as 6 people and as small as just 1 person. His hikes were open to all who wanted to explore and were physically able to make the trips. Josh wanted to share his love of the outdoors with as many as he could.

Josh’s hikes were the culmination of a project he completed for his higher education. Southern Utah University, where Josh attends, has a program called EDGE. EDGE stands for Education Designed to Give Experience. This program helped to Josh to form a project he could be proud to complete and document.
